Those that survive or live with a heart condition need reassurance and support. Heartbeat provides first class rehabilitation programmes which support people to rebuild their lives. Rehabilitation through exercise is proven to enhance the road to recovery and reduce the long term effects of coronary heart disease. However we also know that heart disease effects every aspects of a persons life, this is why we also provide an Information and Advice service which will assist you whatever your query. Our prevention programme works with schools across the County to educate children regarding their future lifestyle choices. We are committed to reducing the future incidence of heart disease by working with the young people of today. The charity was founded in 1978 by Keith and Rose Redman in memory of their teenage daughter who died from coronary illness. They recognised the need to support and enhance existing cardiac rehabilitation programmes so fundraising began which lead to the founding of Heartbeat North West Cardiac Centre. The founders and early volunteers worked hard to establish the charity and the first official base was in Friargate, Preston. In 1986 Pond House on The Harris Park was obtained on lease but total renovation was required. Many local people rallied round to support Heartbeat and raised £150,000 to enable the new centre to open in 1988.
Heartbeat now operates at several venues in Preston,
Blackpool, The Fylde, Chorley and West Lancashire providing long term
support for hundreds of heart patients every week. The framework of
testing, monitoring and support creates a unique formula of
reassurance and progression. Many patients report feeling better than ever
before thanks to Heartbeat Rehabilitation Programmes.
