How will you spend your new £1 coin?

£1 6

One in four people in Lancashire are affected by heart disease do why not donate your first new £1 coin to Heartbeat and help support local people affected by heart disease.

The new UK £1 coin will enter circulation from Tuesday 28th March 2017, and we kindly ask you to donate your first new £1 to Heartbeat.

Each year Heartbeat has to raise, on average, £800k to continue to successfully deliver heart services and support in Preston and across Lancashire. The charity is solely funded by its own fundraising activities and the generous donations of our supporters, it does not at present receive any external funding from the NHS or government.

The charity is completely independent of the British Heart Foundation and any other heart charities but has developed close working relationships with them and associated delivery partners to assist us delivering the best possible service to our participants.

Our head office and cardiac rehabilitation centre is located on the site of Preston North End football club, in addition to this we have 8 other classes and programmes across Lancashire.

Ruby said… “Russ and I married on 6th March 1992 and to celebrate our silver wedding we decided to have an 80’s theme party, live band and there were some fantastic outfits! The 80’s is when we met and courted.”

In total friends and family raised an incredible £272.02 !! Which is a fantastic amount, thank you so much to all!!

“Heartbeat helped me get my confidence back following a stent.  The ‘Hi De J=Hi lady” is my mother with her husband Charles and Heartbeat also helped them both after heart procedures.  This is why we decided to ask for donations instead of gifts.  We had an amazing night.”

If you also have a special occasion coming up and would like to raise funds by asking friends and family to make donations to Heartbeat instead of gifts please contact Mark on 01772 717147 and we can help with promotional material.

A heartfelt thanks to Barclays!

Barclays Bank

Heartbeat is celebrating the fantastic fundraising efforts of staff from Barclays in Preston. Barclays have been supporting Heartbeat as one of their chosen charities and in 2016 they have raised nearly £6,000 for us!

Chris Nelson, branch manager from Barclays said, ‘The staff from Barclays Preston are proud to be able to support Heartbeat.  It’s been great for the local branch team to get involved with Charity work throughout 2016 and we are fully aware and appreciative of the support and services Heartbeat offer to help heart patients and those at risk of developing heart disease across Lancashire.’

Each week Heartbeat supports nearly 800 local people with cardiac rehabilitation sessions in Preston and the surrounding areas which currently costs nearly £1 million per year, all of which needs to come from voluntary donations!

Support from organisations like Barclays is vital to keeping the charity going according to Fundraising Manager, Michelle Hunt ‘Heartbeat is 100% reliant on voluntary donations, and local support like that from Barclays is so important to us. It has been great to work with the Barclays team who have been fantastic at fundraising and getting involved with Heartbeat events throughout the year. Their support and generosity will go a long way in helping hundreds of local people, affected by, and at high risk of heart disease.’

Thank you for your support Woodland Opticians!

Thank you 12

Staff from Woodhouse Opticians on Highfield Road, Blackpool visited Heartbeat’s Blackpool class at Stanley Park Leisure Centre to see firsthand what their fundraising efforts were going towards. The team at Woodhouse raised £731.64 following their Christmas event and raffle.

Woodhouse Opticians 2

The evening saw the Highfield Road community come together to for a night of mulled wine, nibbles, prosecco and even a visit from Father & Mother Christmas.  The night also launched the annual Christmas Raffle held by Woodhouse Opticians which raises funds for local charities.

Heartbeat support over 800 people every week across the North West who are living with heart disease through a specialist, GP led cardiac rehabilitation programme. Heartbeat’s preventative work, which in 2016 reached over 3500 school children, works in the community to raise awareness of heart disease and to promote a healthier lifestyle.
Heartbeat need to raise over £900,000 each year to continue to offer these services, all of which is raised through voluntary donations from people such as the team at Woodhouse Opticians.

If you’re inspired by Julie and the team at Woodhouse Opticians to support Heartbeat, contact Mark Cassidy on 01772 717 147 or mark@heartbeat-nwcc.org.uk.

Thank you to everyone who donated in memory of Tom Harvey

Flowers

Heartbeat would like to thank the family and friends of Tom Harvey, who recently passed away. Tom was a member of Heartbeat’s rehabilitation in the 1990’s following triple bypass surgery. Tom’s family believe that this was key to Tom’s recovery following his surgery and he enjoyed many healthy and happy years until he had a lung operation in August 2016 (aged 74) which he never recovered from. Up until this time he had enjoyed playing golf and was still working part-time.

Tom Harvey

Instead of flowers, Tom’s family asked for donations to be made to Heartbeat in his memory. A grand total of £510.00 was raised from the generosity of Tom’s family and friends and this money will be used to fund cardiac rehabilitation programmes, helping hundreds of local people, which will be a fitting tribute to Tom’s memory.

Thank you to: Tom’s daughters Gaynor and Georgina and their families, R H Little, Mr & Mrs Reed, Mr & Mrs Beattie, Mr & Mrs Penman, Mr & Mrs Jameson, D & D Hilton, Mrs Holme, Mr & Mrs Bradley, Mrs Davis, Mrs Ashley, Mr & Mrs Mills, C&J Smith, Mr & Mrs Berry, and everyone else who kindly contributed – Thank you.
