Preston North End deliver the NCS (National Citizen Service) programme throughout the year for 15 to 17 year olds, who enjoy new experiences and unique challenges whilst making their mark building skills for work and life.
After choosing Heartbeat for their fundraising experience they had a tour of our premises and learned about how Heartbeat help, support and care for over 800 people in the North West every week; these amazing students organised a fundraising day at Sainsbury’s at Deepdale.
Filled with enthusiasm, they donned their onesies, tu-tus and facepaint and spent the day bag packing and bucket collecting.
These amazing young people even came into Heartbeat HQ and counted the money. They saw the fundraising project from the beginning to end and raised a staggering £843 in cash, a £100 cheque sponsorship and an on-going Just Giving page.
We are sorry to report that the Morecambe Bay Walk had to been cancelled again this weekend.
Cedric, the official guide, informed us that there was no safe route across the bay, due to quick sand.
Whilst there are other walks scheduled before the end of the season, because of the bad weather we have experienced this summer we do not feel that the situation will alter, and in all likelihood, any future walks may be cancelled too.
Regrettably, we have taken the decision to leave it for this year and we will hopefully organise another walk for summer 2018.
Many thanks for your understanding and also to all of you who have very kindly donated your walk entry fee as a donation for Heartbeat.
Thank you for your support.

Our very own Heartbeat Hero, Sian, tackled the 2017 AJ Bell London Triathlon and conquered it, Olympic distance no less!!
This Olympic triathlon course is a big event in the triathlon calendar, against really strong athletes.
Sian said… “I am absolutely made up with a time of 2:56, I loved every minute (the hardest part was getting out of my wetsuit) I had amazing support from the Heartbeat Team, my family and TSB.
So, onto the next challenge, it’s going to be a big one for Heartbeat’s 40th Birthday!”
“I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who took time to wish me luck and to also sponsor me, I managed to raise more than £550 …. so, I am hoping to use that money specifically for a piece of kit for once of our gyms.”
Well done Sian! You’re an inspiration!
Huge thanks to TSB, who nominated Heartbeat to be one of their charities of the year for 2017. They kindly offered Heartbeat a place in the Triathlon. 100 TSB employees and 30 charity partners took part in the 2017 AJ Bell London Triathlon, raising funds for many great causes.
We’ve won our 3rd consecutive Gold Cardiac Smart award
With the publicity over Fabrice Muamba’s cardiac arrest, the Oliver King Foundation’s petition, and with more common interest over Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), the dangers of heart health are at the forefront of the nation’s psyche.
The Cardiac Smart initiative promotes awareness of heart health, and awards community groups, organisations and individuals for their commitments to increasing this awareness within their local community or workplace. The criteria for achieving each standard increase across the three levels of Bronze, Silver and Gold.
For the third time, Heartbeat NWCC have been successful in being awarded a gold Cardiac Smart award, the highest possible achievement. Heartbeat NWCC are actively engaged with the Chain of Survival and Community Resuscitation teams across the North-West Ambulance Service promoting the four stages to the ‘chain of survival’.
Our notable Cardiac Smart gold award achievements include:
