My Story

David has been attending Heartbeat cardiac exercise rehabilitation classes at Pond House since having heart surgery just over 3 years ago.

He began experiencing Angina around 7 years ago but tried his best to ignore the signs! Gradually, left untreated, it became worse until it affected him whilst doing household jobs like mowing the lawn. Finally, after a particularly severe attack he went to see his Doctor who sent him straight to Hospital!

The cardiac team at Royal Preston Hospital discovered that David had a significant blockage in his Artery and arranged for him to have a Stent fitted, following which he was referred to Heartbeat. Since then he has never looked back!

Our New Website

Heartbeat has recently invested in the development of a new website aimed at providing information about cardiovascular disease, cardiac rehabilitation and all aspects of Heartbeats activities.

'We know how important it is for people to have information at their fingertips about the services and resources Heartbeat offers to support people affected by heart disease. The launch of the new website, at the Heartbeat Spring Conference, is only just the beginning, with further development under way to build on this important development.' says Stuart Clayton, Chief Executive at Heartbeat.

'WASH design will continue to work with us to develop a new interactive childrens page which will be used in our education and prevention work and can be used by schools and parents..so watch this space' says Stuart.

BACPR - New Standards

The British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention (BACPR) recently launched the 2nd edition of the BACPR Standards and Core Components for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation.

This 2nd edition builds on the success of the original 2007 version by incorporating the latest developments in the clinical evidence base for cardiac rehabilitation whilst also aligning with the wider agenda in terms of commissioning and other national guidance. This edition recognises the importance of an integrated approach to the prevention and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease forming the foundation of every cardiac rehabilitation programme.
