Jim, who had served on the management committee of the league for 43 years, was a keen supporter of the Heartbeat (the League’s adopted charity) and he was instrumental in raising a substantial amount for them in recent years.

Val and Keith’s John O Groats to Lands End

Val & Keith

This year Val has been Lady Captain at Rossendale Golf Club and has supported Heartbeat during the year in memory of Peter Ashcroft

The golf season finishes at the end of October, immediately after closing day, Val and Keith are going to travel up to John o Groats to get on their bikes and cycle to Land’s End.

Val says, ‘The challenge is very dependent on weather conditions so will be completed in three or four stages but we hope to complete the whole journey during November. We are travelling on quiet roads and tracks and the total distance will be about 1,500 km.

I am hoping to raise funds for a couple of charities and you can donate here to support Heartbeat. I will post updates on our progress as we go.’

This Christmas YOU can help local people affected by heart disease.

In the UK, someone has a heart attack every 3 minutes, that’s nearly 500 people every single day.

But more people experience heart attacks at Christmas than at any other time of the year.

During December and into January there is a huge increase in the number of people having heart attacks, and your support today ensures that the vital cardiac rehabilitation that they need is available, when they need it.

Family Christmas

Heartbeat needs to raise nearly £1 million every year to provide cardiac services.

The charity does not receive any government or NHS funding to do this.

ALL support is voluntary and it is only because of people like you that we are able to help more than 800 people every single week.

Here’s to Sian!

Sian Triathlon 6

Our very own Heartbeat Hero, Sian, tackled the 2017 AJ Bell London Triathlon and conquered it, Olympic distance no less!!

Sian Tri 3.jpg

This Olympic triathlon course is a big event in the triathlon calendar, against really strong athletes.

Sian said… “I am absolutely made up with a time of 2:56, I loved every minute (the hardest part was getting out of my wetsuit) I had amazing support from the Heartbeat Team, my family and TSB.

So, onto the next challenge, it’s going to be a big one for Heartbeat’s 40th Birthday!”

Thank you 14“I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who took time to wish me luck and to also sponsor me, I managed to raise more than £550 …. so, I am hoping to use that money specifically for a piece of kit for once of our gyms.”

Well done Sian! You’re an inspiration!

Huge thanks to TSB, who nominated Heartbeat to be one of their charities of the year for 2017. They kindly offered Heartbeat a place in the Triathlon. 100 TSB employees and 30 charity partners took part in the 2017 AJ Bell London Triathlon, raising funds for many great causes.

We’ve done it again!

Small Cardiac Smart Logo

We’ve won our 3rd consecutive Gold Cardiac Smart award

With the publicity over Fabrice Muamba’s cardiac arrest, the Oliver King Foundation’s petition, and with more common interest over Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), the dangers of heart health are at the forefront of the nation’s psyche.

The Cardiac Smart initiative promotes awareness of heart health, and awards community groups, organisations and individuals for their commitments to increasing this awareness within their local community or workplace.  The criteria for achieving each standard increase across the three levels of Bronze, Silver and Gold.

For the third time, Heartbeat NWCC have been successful in being awarded a gold Cardiac Smart award, the highest possible achievement.  Heartbeat NWCC are actively engaged with the Chain of Survival and Community Resuscitation teams across the North-West Ambulance Service promoting the four stages to the ‘chain of survival’.

Sian CardiacSmart2

Our notable Cardiac Smart gold award achievements include:

  • All our sites have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • All staff are trained in CPR and AED use
  • A Community Public Access Defibrillator (cPAD) has been placed on the external wall of our PNE site
  • First aid courses for the community run on a monthly basis at PNE
  • ‘Mini-medics’ a child friendly first aid course is available to primary schools throughout Lancashire
  • Actively promoting AED’s/cPADs through our network of corporate partners
