Packing a Punch for Heartbeat!

On Saturday 9th January lads from all corners of the Lancashire Sunday League battled it out in the ring at Evoque Nightclub, Preston, after 8 weeks of hard training and dedication.

No less than 28 fighters went toe to toe for 3 x 2 minute rounds in a box office style event that saw the lads out of their usual comfort zone.

One fight caught the social media headlines is Dixie "THE MELODY MAKER" Dawson (Unicorn FC Manager) v Daz "THE KING" Green (Ashton Villa). Dixie said "I'm in a win, win situation, having joined up to this event 8 weeks ago. It has helped me turn a corner with my own fitness and I feel like Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, having been handed a golden ticket to sort out Ashton Villa’s Daz Green. I am delighted that the evening is in support of Heartbeat which is a great local charity”.

Daz Green said" As soon as I heard that this event was in support of Heartbeat I wanted to be involved have gone through two heart operations to fix a heart rhythm problem, which thankfully I have fully recovered from".

Daz continued, "I got on the phone immediately to Craig Ashcroft to ask him to sort me a clash with Unicorns David “Dixie” Dawson and I thought it would be the occasion to show the people why I am the King. I'm also very grateful and appreciative for this chance to represent the Lancashire Sunday League and my team Ashton Villa in a totally different environment."

The referee for the evening was Rob Reid, the former WBC Super Middleweight Champion.

A word of praise for Craig Ashcroft who has done a tremendous amount of work organising the event in support of Heartbeat the League’s adopted charity.

A HUGE thank you

to all those that took part in the

Event on Saturday 9th January 2016

Christmas Jumper Day!

On Friday 18th December 2015 schools and businesses in Lancashire donned their Christmas jumpers and supported their local heart charity.

A huge thank you to everyone at Brindle Gregson Lane Primary School, where the wonderful children, families and staff raised over £160, which is a fantastic amount and very much appreciated!

Ray Butler gives something back to Heartbeat

Ray Butler gives something back to Heartbeat

Avid Heartbeat supporter and service user Ray Butler has raised a wonderful £425 by taking on Preston’s Guild Wheel.

Ray wanted to take on a challenge to give something back to Heartbeat after attending heart rehabilitation classes for the last 25 years as well as celebrating his 70th birthday.

On Saturday 30th May Ray along with friend Tim Eaves took on the mighty 21 mile guild wheel on foot. During the route they were joined by a fellow class member John Beetham and Heartbeat Staff Karen Gildert and Carl Martinez.

Ray said –

“I would like to thank all those that have kindly sponsored me. I didn’t expect to raise as much as I have. Walking is something I really enjoy doing so being able to do it and give something back to the charity that has helped me keep a good level of fitness after my heart attacks was fantastic”

Lisa Riding Heartbeat Fundraiser –

“On behalf of us all here at Heartbeat I would like to thank Ray and his team for taking part in the challenge and for raising this wonderful amount for Heartbeat. Fundraising has never been so important to Heartbeat, with our recent move to PNE we are looking to increase our services within the local community and reach out to more people suffering from or at risk of cardiovascular disease.”

If like Ray you would like to support Heartbeat by taking up your own personal challenge or by organising your own fundraising event we would love to hear from you. Please contact Lisa Riding in the fundraising office on 01772 717147 or email

Five hours of fitness brings 2k

Five hours of fitness brings 2k for Heartbeat charity

A five-hour exercise class saw 70 participants raise almost £2,000 for charity, and funds are still being counted.

The North West’s leading cardiac rehabilitation charity, Heartbeat, held the mammoth marathon at Preston’s College in a bid to raise funds.

It was organised by fitness instructor, Cheryl Hughes from Everybody Fit.

Fitness fans from across Preston pumped, boxed and sweated through the five classes of Body Attack, Insanity, Kettlercise, Metafit and Body Combat.

Each of them paid £20 towards the final figure, as well as asking friends and family for sponsorship.

Alongside the classes, stalls were also selling their wares at the college in Fulwood, and to keep the crowds fuelled, a hog roast was on offer for those who had worked up an appetite.

There was a really, really good turnout and we’re just so honoured that they came along and chose to support Heartbeat.

Lisa Riding, Heartbeat fund-raiser, said: “We were just overwhelmed at the number of people who took part in the event. There was a really, really good turnout and we’re just so honoured that they came along and chose to support Heartbeat.”

Lisa added: “We raised £500 on the day with a raffle and around £1,400 through entry donations so with money still coming in, we’re pretty sure we’ll be reaching our £3,000 target.”
