Packing a Punch for Heartbeat!

Heart5

On Saturday 9th January lads from all corners of the Lancashire Sunday League battled it out in the ring at Evoque Nightclub, Preston, after 8 weeks of hard training and dedication.

No less than 28 fighters went toe to toe for 3 x 2 minute rounds in a box office style event that saw the lads out of their usual comfort zone.

One fight caught the social media headlines is Dixie “THE MELODY MAKER” Dawson (Unicorn FC Manager) v Daz “THE KING” Green (Ashton Villa). Dixie said “I’m in a win, win situation, having joined up to this event 8 weeks ago. It has helped me turn a corner with my own fitness and I feel like Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, having been handed a golden ticket to sort out Ashton Villa’s Daz Green. I am delighted that the evening is in support of Heartbeat which is a great local charity”.

Daz Green said” As soon as I heard that this event was in support of Heartbeat I wanted to be involved have gone through two heart operations to fix a heart rhythm problem, which thankfully I have fully recovered from”.

Daz continued, “I got on the phone immediately to Craig Ashcroft to ask him to sort me a clash with Unicorns David “Dixie” Dawson and I thought it would be the occasion to show the people why I am the King. I’m also very grateful and appreciative for this chance to represent the Lancashire Sunday League and my team Ashton Villa in a totally different environment.”

The referee for the evening was Rob Reid, the former WBC Super Middleweight Champion.

A word of praise for Craig Ashcroft who has done a tremendous amount of work organising the event in support of Heartbeat the League’s adopted charity.
