Martin Issatt runs to say thank you to Heartbeat
Date: October 2017
Martin, 49 from Chipping, wanted to give something back to Heartbeat after attending rehabilitation classes at the centre within PNE.
In Spring 2017 Martin started to feel unwell and after several visits to the hospital in June 2017 he had a double heart bypass. After his operation Martin was referred to Heartbeat for his rehabilitation classes.
Martin said, “Being diagnosed with heart disease was a huge shock, but after my surgery I found the Heartbeat rehab program an invaluable part of my recovery, the team worked with me and gave me advice on training limits to help me achieve my goals, without the program I don’t think I’d be as well as I feel now.”
Martin previously enjoyed taking part in challenges such as Bad Ass Mucker 10k in 2015 and in 2014 and 2013 he took part in Para10 which is a 10-mile endurance run organised by the Parachute Regiment and was physically fit when he began to feel unwell. Martin has got a family history of heart disease; however, it took Martin by surprise when he was told he had to have a double heart bypass.
Lisa Riding Heartbeat fundraiser said, “Martin has decided to take part in the Morecambe 10k later this year to raise funds for Heartbeat. This will mark his 12-month anniversary after having his heart bypass. Martin has found his recovery difficult not only physically, but emotionally to, so this really will be a challenge for him and we can’t thank him enough. He is a true inspiration to us all.”
Martin is now a member of the Cardiac Athletes and took part in his 1st 5k run in Oct 2017, just four months after his operation.
