Cardiac Rehabilitation can take a long time.   We feel at Heartbeat that cardiac rehabilitation programmes should run for at least 9 months.  Heartbeat provides local heart patients with the staff,  equipment  and venue over this 9 month and, at the end of this time the opportunity to continue in this new life style on exercise programmes for as long as you wish (subject to vacancies).

Part of the exercise equipment in our gymnasium.  Our past experience has enabled us to develop a rehabilitation regime of weekly exercise activity.   Sessions take place in Preston at Pond House, The University of Central Lancashire, Blackpool at the Stanley Park Leisure Centre, Kirkham at Ribby Hall Leisure Village, Chorley at Clayton Green Leisure Centre, Bamber Bridge and Ormskirk.   Exercise sessions are carried out with a BACR qualified exercise instructor.  Patients attend sessions based on each persons target heart rate, physical capabilities and where possible proximity to home or work.  Many patients on completion of our  medical sessions join what we call one of our Non Medical Groups known as 'Advance Groups' (For details of Groups available see our Advance Group Page).  Some of the 'Advance' sessions outside Pond House are organised and run by ex patients.   Those held in Pond House are run by Heartbeat and are taken by one of our BACR qualified instructors an exercise instructor.  A de-fibrilator is available should it be required.

Our three instructors are Jackie Lowry and Leonard Johnrose and Roger Berry.  All are based at Pond House.   All are qualified by the British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation and, in addition to organising the classes at Pond House also supervises the instructors at all our other venues.  The Heartbeat rehabilitation programme is designed to bring about a positive approach to improving the emotional and physical well being of those recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery.

Programmes run typically for 9 months with patients recalled for re-testing and evaluation at the end of this time.   Some patients may well be re-tested during the nine months as our medical team see fit.

Patients can only join one of our programmes after referral from the hospital or GP.

Following discharge from Hospital, Heartbeat will normally contact you after a suitable time has passed (8-12 weeks) and invite you to a meeting with our nurse prior to a stress electrocardiograph test , which takes place about two weeks later. The nurse will explain everything that will happen and answer any questions or concerns that you may have on your initial visit. For further information please email heartbeat , telephone 01772 717147 or send a fax to 01772 788098
