Before we can recommend attending a rehabilitation course it is necessary that patients undergo a test at Pond House. The test is designed to discover the capacity for exercise and is supervised by a doctor. This type of test will be familiar to patients as it involves attaching sensor wires onto the chest to record heart measurements on electrocardiograph instruments while the patient walks on a treadmill.

Debbie is our Physiological Measurement Technician who carries out patient testing. Heartbeat allows ample time for each test although it usually lasts less than an hour, half of  which is used for preparation. Patients are advised to relax and have a shower after the test. Following the test patients are given a target heart rate which is set within safe limits, this rate is then used to control the intensity of exercise during the rehabilitation course.

We welcome all new patients to Heartbeat and hope they are able to gain maximum benefit from using our Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Programme. Please be assured that we are here to help you on the road to recovery and all our staff understand the trauma which follows a heart attack or surgery.  Everything we do is aimed at providing a relaxed informal atmosphere for rehabilitation, our target is to help people to lead a full and active life after experiencing heart problems.
