Supervised Exercise Programmes

Our core service at Heartbeat is our supervised exercise programme, designed for people living with a wide range of clinical conditions such as heart disease, stroke, pulmonary disease and peripheral artery disease, as well as those at high risk of a cardiac event.

All members start with a clinical Exercise Tolerance Test (carried out by our cardiac physiologists), which allows us to create a safe, personalised exercise plan. This assessment is repeated again at 9 months, and members are then welcome to stay on the programme for as long as they wish.

To join our exercise programme, please take both forms below to your GP to fill in before bringing into Heartbeat HQ.

Tailored to a Range of Conditions

Our exercise classes are run by BACPR-qualified instructors and are tailored to suit:

  • Cardiac rehabilitation (Phase III & IV)
  • Stroke rehabilitation
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD)
  • People at high risk of heart disease (prevention)

Each session includes a mixture of aerobic and resistance-based exercise, closely supervised to make sure everyone feels safe, supported and confident.

More than just exercise…

Heartbeat is much more than just a place to exercise. We build community, routine and confidence:

– Educational workshops every month on topics like men’s mental health, diabetes, cancer, menopause, hydration and more!

– Social activities including a choir, chess club, community allotment and regular events.

– Many of our members stay for years, forming friendships and meeting up outside of their classes.
